Dr. Deepak Mishra is an economist and policy expert currently serving as Adviser to the World Development Report 2026 at the World Bank. He previously led the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) and spent over two decades at the World Bank, working across Africa and Asia. His work focuses on technology, globalisation, multilateralism, jobs, and economic growth. With a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, and an MA from Delhi Scholl of Economics, he has served on high-level committees of the Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Statistics, and the G20 Independent Expert Group.

Dr. Deepak Mishra is an economist and policy expert currently serving as Adviser to the World Development Report 2026 at the World Bank. Prior to this, he was the Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER).

Over more than two decades at the World Bank, Dr. Mishra worked across more than fifteen countries, living and working in Africa, East Asia, North America and South Asia, and co-directed the World Development Report 2016: Digital Dividends. His work lies at the intersection of technology and development, with a particular focus on digital transformation, jobs, and economic growth.

An active voice in India’s policy discourse, he has served on several high-level committees and advisory bodies, including those of the Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the G20 Independent Expert Group established during India’s G20 Presidency. He has also worked closely with over a dozen state governments on policy design and economic reforms. His academic research has appeared in leading journals, and he writes regularly for Business Standards and The Economic Times. Deepak holds an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland.
